(CNN) The goal of new USDA rules on school lunches is to make students healthy, but for many, the rules are also making them hungry.
Students have been complaining about the new rules for school lunches all over social media.
In this video from CNN affiliate KXJB, three athletes at Milnor School in North Dakota - Wyatt Mund, Andrew Martinson, and Colin Yagow– take their complaint all the way to first lady Michelle Obama, who championed the new school lunch guidelines. Their music video is titled "First Lady that I Used to Know," a parody of the Gotye hit song.
Principal Ned Clooten appreciates the intent of the new lunch rules and says that there are a lot of changes that are very good in the school lunch program.
"But the number of calories that we're providing some high school students just isn't enough," says Clooten. He supports the students who made the video.
The athletes hope their voices will be heard and bring about change in their school cafeteria.
Call me crazy ....as my kids often do...but how about atheltes have a seperate food program that is part of the athletic budget that parents can pay into to offset the cost. This means more LEAN meats more WHOLE grain carbs and less usless calories that will contribute to the morbisity rate. This would be also an incentive for kids to get off their cute chunky cheeks and find a perk to becoming more active. I do agree that kids that have strenuous athletic practice need to have healthy carbs in larger doses. But soda's do not count as that, or greasy fries! Take what our Lady Pres says and just add to it to meet the needs to our future olympians. But, they have to work and being healthy and lean by being active in what ever their sport of choice may be. Also, when its serious time to crunch for AST's or SAT's or any finals, give then more brain food, in other words, use common sense people. But, then again, I am just a MOM and a tax payer.
Did somebody explain to the students that soda drinks do not let calсium to absorb because Na-sodium (main component of soda drinks) and Ca – calcium are antagonist? Did somebody know that during long heating fats changes their molecule form and are carcinogenic? Did you pay attention that children diabetis is a disease of new age?
There's no need to go to doctor to get answers (you can do it also), just google and you'll find many information.
People do not want to be healthy, they just want to have a pleasure and work to provide medicines for themself.
If parents do not care about children food (which is more easy and do not need time) so children are addicted to food, that we do not need at all. The protest just show how deep is addiction.
I feel that the government needs to butt out period. What kids eat should be between the kid and their parents. Since when is processed foods healthy? The last time I checked it is not healthy whatsoever. Some kids are actually eating twice or three times as much after school because they go hungry all day long. So some kids do end up eating a full meal after school and then turn around and eat another dinner. Some families are well below poverty that sometimes these kids may just get what they eat at school. For all the people who said they need to bring a lunch some schools may not allow kids to bring a bag lunch. I know the high school I went to would not allow me to bring my lunch I either had to eat in the cafeteria or not eat at all.
they should thank to god that they have enough food, some other country childern get one meal a day
Right is right, no way around it. We have to eat smaller portions. They are not used to the portions and you see the principal. If you want to look like that athletes then do exactly what the bulging belly principal says.
Really he wanted to sit in front of the camara with no neck and talk food. This really happened. Wow.
YOU ARE WRONG!!!! I was a high school cross-country runner and later a wrestler... I HAD to keep extra money with me so I could rush through the lunch lines twice over just too keep my weight over 160 pounds.. and I am 6' 1" tall!!! I am now 41 years old and in good health and so are all of my children.. Kids must eat a lot and well... and completely stay away from sugar. Their bodies crave food because they really need it.. By depriving children of ample food and proper nutrition, the kids will be forced to self medicate with sweets and candy. It is abusive, plain and simple!
Christopher- Maybe you should check the AMA for facts regarding obesity in Ameica. Better yet, take a trip to your local mall sit ona bench and just observe. Looking at the lunch trays of the 3 kids in the video doesn't suggest to me that they are being abused.I'm 63- ride my stationary bike 5 miles a day- walk 8 mins morning and night on my treadmill and lift weights every other day.5'10" 180 lbs trying to lose 5 lbs around the waist though. I might agree that some of the more athletic kids might need a few more calories so tweek the guidelines a little, but lets not call it abusive. Just my thoughts. Have a great day.
Pure blather! Firstly, their trays were overfilled. It's hard to end a message of 'not enough food' when you have a cheeseburger, fries, tots and other things hanging over your tray. Secondly, more calories? What the students (athletes and non alike) need is healthier food. Higher proteins vs fats/carbs will give them the calories they need and a much fuller sensation after they eat. And yes, as others have pointed out, if they don't like the school food, bring their own or go out and buy lunch.
They are far from starving.
The principal should listen to Mrs. Obama. Get rid of the sodas and deep fried foods. Then give them extra fruits and vegetables.
Yeah fruits and veggies will fill them up (not) , i'd like to give you a knuckle sandwhich.....
Athletes do need a higher calorie intake, but that shouldn't be the school's responsibility. The idea is to get kids off the high calories that athletes need. Athletes are a special subset of the general population of the school. They should be responsible for their own snacks. I was an athlete through middle school, high school, and college. I was notorious for keeping snack food on me, or in my locker. Even just a chocolate bar, something for that energy. That was MY responsibility, not the schools (they barely fed me as was since I am a Vegetarian), not my parents, and not my coaches, MINE. I had to make sure I took care of it. These athletes should take responsibility, bring a snack, and talk to their parents if they need one.
On a side note: most athletes don't eat big meals, they eat small ones throughout the day, and usually a dinner after practice... I'm not sure for these kids why they haven't gone to that standard.
Dude in blue shirt needs to give up most of his calories to those athletic kids. Or maybe he should get his fat ass out there and participate in the athletics. That food looks perfectly healthy for healthy kids. Besides I don't want anymore of my tax dollars going to nothing when these kids can get more food from their parents. I'd say send their parents to jail for neglect of these kids nutritional needs. Don't put them into athletics if you can't keep up with the extra demands. DON'T BREED EM IF YOU CAN'T FEED EM.
Am I the only one who thinks this is a neat story because three teenagers decided to express their dislike of something by writing a parody song, as opposed to doing something destructive?
Yes you are what is so special about wasting time parodying a song which doesn't even apply to the situation. These boys should rather be thanking Michelle Obama for caring enough about America's young who go from obese child to obese adult stuffing themselves with the wrong kinds of food!! I would wager that these three musicians are making a hidden statement about the re-election of President Obama. They probably are Republican and are immature enough to choose this subject as a bone to pick. If they are not having enough let them go and feed their faces with the calorie loaded foods they thrive on.
When I grow up, I hope to be just like you, Commonsense....ya know...believing the reason for the video was an attempt by young republican boys to voice their dislike for the reelection of President Obama. Wooooweee....video was posted 2 days prior to election....they must be mindreaders of all that voted to know the outcome of the election. Commonsense....not!
What the heck is wrong with you people? Can't you people see that not all kids are the same? If so, then why feed them the same? They obviously don't want to bring food from home everyday because it is an inconvenience and plus for smaller school it makes more sence to eat at your school (short lunch breaks, no open campus, school needs the money and support from students) Some of you city slickers might not understand this (not all, just some of you more stubborn ones... Jo *cough cough*). You people have to realize that some kids need more food for lunch and want to contribute to the school by buying into their lunch program to not only help them out like I said, but also because it is way more convenient for some. Listen people, I'm a people person and I like to deal with people..that's what I do! So if I were Michelle I would focus more on a mandatory Ph.Ed. (gym) course. This would ensure that students get exercize and I would also bring back bigger, healthier portions. You know people, let's be honest... when it's all said and done this is all just a way for the president and his wife to try to reduce our national debt..(Raise food prices, lower the quanity of food, have schools serve cheap processed food) They are making bank of this new system and I think that's what a lot of you people aren't seeing! And as for these kids, they are just trying to show off their talents and show the nations want for healthier and more food...it fine what theyre doing! Can't you people see that?!?!?! Exercize and eating healthy > eating small amounts of processed food
i remember very well middle and high school (since its not that far in the past) and wanted to make one important point that a lot of people are missing. most kids don't eat a full breakfast and that may be why they feel so hungry when they get to lunch!!!! school starts really early and if you take the bus you have to get up sometimes before the sun comes up!!! it sucks, and the last thing you want to do is wake up even earlier to eat. besides i was and am never hungry when i wake up that early, my stomach just wasn't ready for food. so i would run out of the house with a banana or maybe a half bowl of cereal if i was lucky. and not because my dad didn't care, he did. he was up every morning and always tried to make me eat. but i refused, especially as i got older and more independent...yea i was a brat, like all teenagers are. imagine if my dad was too busy or didn't care, then i wouldn't have eaten anything. and i remember feeling hungry and even faint at times by about 9 or 10 o clock, and then lunch was still a few hours away!!! point is, we also need to think about the fact that a lot of these kids are up at 5 or 6 in the morning, eating practically nothing and thats why they may feel like they need more food at lunch.
Ok, I see a few things wrong here. Let's put a few things into perspective. 11.9% poverty rate (77 whites & all of the minority population) where they are... I highly doubt that those three student-athletes "need" more food. 78.7% of this town's population graduated HS or above (above national average) so I'd hope their education has taught them pack a lunch. Unemployment there is 2.5% so I think that might also mean they have jobs as well... buy your kid a sandwich to take to school...
Did I miss something here? I found it to be rather interesting and amusing the perspective of an active and athletic teen. Of course, you and I probably need not "extra calories" and can get by with what we would be served with these new regulations, but I believe they point that they were making was, "Fuel Up to Play 60"...how can one fuel up with no fuel?
(This was taken off of Livestrong.com website: under calories needed per day by Special Populations):
"Teen athletes are a special population when it comes to calorie needs. A teen needs more calories to not only fuel her athletic training, but her growth as well. According to TeensHealth, a teenager may need 2,000 to 5,000 calories per day to meet her energy needs."
I believe these kids have a point!!!!
No Jo you are mistaken. You can't get seconds on any of that stuff at my school, just more canned syrup fruit. Besides the main courses are all unhealthy! So in all reality the fact is the new regulations arent going to make kids fit! beside obese kids are going to eat junk food after school if they are still hungry and this policy wont stop that so what we really need to do is have more exercise if you are looking for healthier kids because the meals are processed!!!!
So, what they're saying is, "you deserve a break today". Just open up McDonald's inside schools and the problem will be taken care of. The school district will make money and the students will be happy. It's not as if they don't eat there on the way home, anyhow. Mother's need a break, too. Why eat food when you can go to McDonald's.
This country pays fast food restaurants for less food then what is on those plates. Look how fat our country has become if people think portion sizes need to be more than what is shown in this video. Some of you are saying this lunch plan is going to cause our children to be malnourished? Are you crazy take that plate to the food pantry and see how excited those mothers would be to be able to give their children a meal like that.
Agree! We are so use to seeing servings for 4 as one serving that we feel that it is not enough when we get a normal portion size. Athletes do need more calories, but the White House (or Michelle) is not telling them this is your one and only meal for the day.
First, if you want people to support your cause, don't show a day when your lunch is a chicken sandwich, tater tots, green beans, salad, and fresh fruit. Second, your spokesperson should be in shape–this principal can shed some pounds himself. Third, your "extras" should not be obese–check out some of the other students. And last but not least, in your song if you say your mother packs a better lunch–then have her do it. Seriously I think they just want 15 mins of fame....
Your mother never loved you did she Jo? It's a parody, go troll the internet somewhere else.
Yes, take it to the level of my mother...who was in World War II and would have had loved to have food like that to feed her children (and orphanage that she ran).
I think you have been sipping a little to long on the haterade yourself.
School food sucks and it's unhealthy! Unless you are in school and know otherwise don't be so ignorant on the matter! Oh and the portions suck to so get your information right. I am also a student so you can STFU about your mothers deeds and look at the facts on this new policy.
By looking at your comments on this subject...I believe it is you, Jo, who seeks 15 minutes of fame (by fame for you, I mean posting your rants probably on multiple media outlets on various topics, none of which I am assuming you could possibly be too knowledgeable in.) Instead of critizing these teens and those extras who participated in it, why don't you give them props for apparently doing what they set out to do...Get us all talking about it and maybe looking into the policy a little deeper.
Got me, I will give them kudos for having us talk about it! So thumbs up there to you and the video. Also, if I am being viewed as a hater, I'm sorry for that as well, but in a way I am...because I hate the thought of kids having to get insulin shots or suffer later for something that they could learn about now versus having to change as an adult. I also did think I had the facts...so correct me if I am wrong but schools have the option to give students who need additional calories seconds of low-fat milk, fruit, and vegetables and the calorie counts for high school students are between 750 to 850 calories.
Public school lunches are notoriously terrible. As a public health educator, I assure you that it is possible to make a healthy lunch in 10 minutes. Sometimes it takes a little planning and preparation to eat healthy.
I can't comprehend how parents depend on a school to feed their kids. Make your own lunches, we don't even get offered lunches where I went to school.
Nathan, child, are troubled my son? There are many families that depend on school to feed their kids. You might not see this because it sounds like you never were part of a school that served food. And I read that you think you can make a meal from scratch that doesn't involve processed food in 10 minutes!! Oh dear you obviously haven't raised 5 children before have you!
Hope you get some help Nathan and see straight soon..
I've already graduated from Milnor and the food on the board.... Is what you choose from. There is no other entree choice. You get what you get. PROUD OF YOU BOYS!
Entree choice?? Man things have changed since I was in school if kids honestly expect an entree choice. You got your monthly schedule of what would be served and chose whether or not to get school lunch or bring your own, based on how obviously the food of the day was deep fried cardboard. Some wasn't bad. Some was . . . my, but some was bad indeed. My bus came at 6am (first stop, yaaaay), so my folks weren't going to get up and make me a lunch, so if I didn't like what was on the menu, I made myself a sandwich. It's really not hard. Entree choice. Please.
Several points.. First of all schools arent to be blamed...they simply follow the lunch regulations and the boys in this video understand that (if you listen to the lyrics). Another, bringing food to school is not an option for many kids so stop bringing it up.. some families cant provide this option everyday for various reasons and who wants to eat granola bars and sandwiches every day. If you think you can bring different food and warm it up you are wrong! Most schools (all that i know) dont allow students to warm food up in a microwave. My last point, with the new lunch program a 4' 70lb 1st grader gets the same food portions as a 6'5" 220lb senior.. that is complete BS!!! (Again not the school to blame) Schools cant even offer extra pb sandwiches to go with meal...oh but they are able to sell additional food if you want seconds with this lunch program...and doesnt that defeat the purpose of "healthy portions"?? Yah..
It's far cheaper to bring your own lunch to school if you take the ten minutes to make it from scratch instead of buying pre-made garbage. How can one not bring a lunch to school? I've never purchased a lunch in my school in my life, so saying that some people can't bring lunches to school is ridiculous. I made my own lunch as an 8 year old.
How do you figure it is cheaper to bring your own lunch?? I pay for my children's lunch and it costs $2.75...which has gone up .25 cents. Now I don't know who licked the red off of your lollipop, Nathan, but if you are going to make your own lunch from scratch it is going to cost more than 2.75 and chances are you are not making a meal in 10 minutes you door knob. It is a hassle to bring your own lunch!! And WHAT ARE YOU GOING TO PACK FOR LUNCH!!?? Please share! and keep in mind you can't heat anything up. That being said, many families are going to opt to go with the school lunch program. The problem though (thanks to the new food regulations) is that the price of lunch went up, the food portions got smaller, and many kids are coming home hungry. And Nathan, there are many families that can't afford to 1.) Supply their kids with an additional lunch or 2.)Have Tommy and Susie come home and raid the fridge of all the food.
I am from this school. We are supposed to have 1 or 2 things from the hot meal section and then a fruit or veggie from the salad bar. You don't have the option of free will bread or peanut butter. No, asking now. It IS a big deal and all of us at Milnor Public School completely suppport Wyatt, Andrew, and Poncho. They are 3 great athletes, and are essentials to the teams of football, basketball, and track. The boys speak the truth.
I think they're approach to attempting to change school lunch was extremely immature. Seems to me like the boys were attemping to get on the news, not actually CARING to change school lunch. If you can afford paying for school lunch, you can afford bringing your own lunch: end of story. The overall immaturity is obvious.
I think John is a little upset to see kids all across America want change. So John decides to go troll the internet....pathetic.
Spot on John three immature boys who wanted to get famous overnight they don't look like they need any more foood
Dear First Lady,
Thank you so much for at least caring about the health of America's kids. Kids that you don't even know, but as you can see by some of the comments on here their own parents don't even care about their kids health. You know it's really sad how the minds of some Americans work there are countries where children don't even get to eat at all and the parents here are complaining about a healthy school menu. No one forces them to eat the school food if you don't like it bring your own lunch.END OF DISCUSSION.
News flash....the meals aren't even healthier! Sure they add a couple more veggies and some canned fruit (which isn't even healthy). Bottom line, the main course is the big deal and that's total garbage. My son's school served uncrustables as a main dish! They also serve nachos! Don't sit here and tell me she is making a healthier America cause that's crazy talk!
Canned items can be healthier than 'fresh' items because they're usually canned immediately, while your produce sits on shelves for weeks sometimes.
You think canned fruit is healthy? its sugary syrup and not even close to good for you....get your facts straight before you go around here like an ignorant fool.
I am a parent to one of the students on the video. I just want to say how PROUD I am of THESE BOYS. They are very active in their sports, eat healthy, make the honor roll and are very inspiring young men. If you got to know them, you would like them. They made a video to bring about a point that although they are all for "healthy choices" in eating, the portions are just not near enough for such active teens and are by no means considered healthy (all processed chicken products such as nuggets, chicken sandwiches and strips, or how about hot dog with salad bar or something called crispitos). It is a "one size fits all policy" and it just is not working. Like they say on the video, "They are all for their fruits and veggies" but 2 ounces of protein and half a pint of milk are not enough to sustain. They do bring "extra" food to school when needed such as health bars, a banana, whatever can help to get them through.
These boys' parents and many more DO CARE ABOUT THEIR KIDS!!!! I can say that there are many days that those boys do bring their own lunches from home. We are from North Dakota where we take care of our own and take pride in family and to suggest different is just asinine and you probably did not grow up in the Midwest our you would not question that.
If you want to see what these kids are about, they are also a part of "ND Jumpstreet", check them out on You Tube!. Maybe you yourself will see what these boys are made of and maybe, just maybe, they could inspire you too!
Once again, I AM A PROUD AND CARING PARENT and just wishing for you, Marc, that possibly your parents feel the same about you.
Best wishes to you,
I just want to respond also to Marc as someone who works in the same school as these boys who made the video. Everything they speak about is true. They aren't whining and begging for food, they took the time to check out the facts and nail down the policy before they wrote a great song about it. Chicken nuggets are not healthier, these foods are now just being served in smaller portions. I am going to stand by my assertion that it is not the 185 meals a year that make our children obese, it is what they receive at home and the lifestyle that their families choose to lead. I think that the policy should be to EDUCATE not MANDATE. We do not live in a one size fits all world, and the way this policy is implemented does not have any wiggle room. These boys are also very athletic and have undertaken a project before this, and I have seen it mentioned, of ND Jumpstreet, and they have gone around raising money with their jump roping team to buy jump ropes and then giving the jump ropes to kids to keep them active. They have done a demonstration at the school and handed out the ropes. Now, whether or not the kids choose to use them is up to them and their parents if they want to encourage it. They educated, not mandated. They are smart, talented, classy young men who are using humor and satire in a great way to send a message, and I am very proud to say I know them.
A parent- You sound reasonable and appear to be a sensible caring parent. The problem as I see it is this.I doubt that it is possible to provide a lunch menu that everyone would be in favor of. Perhaps if your sons require more protein-the school could provide pre packaged yogurt or some hard boiled eggs.Obviously it might require an additional charge as the cost for a lunch meal I would assume is based on specific portioning size. Kudos to all 3 guys for showing some initiative. I don't understand all the hostile comments and I certainly don't believe this to be a political statement. PS I'm a Libtard. Congratulations to you for raising a good child and thanks for your comment.Have a great day.
Bravo Marc well said. They should be grateful they have a First Lady who actually cares about their well-being and what they put down their throats.... and what do they do instead? complain and winge like a bunch of immature children who can't see the woods for the trees
Sounds like you may be complaining and whining yourself.
School menus should be based on local culture and taste. That does not mean an absence of healthy guidelines and requirements. because you will always have suppliers going cheap to maximize profit. And, since when is it a requirement for a tax base to support an athlete's calorie requirements? If you want that option; Hello Boosters, we want this option for our athletes. Stop whining, figure it out. You can buy MREs online, if you want the extra calories for your athletes. All you need is proper storage. All you entrepreneurs here you go: develope, duplicate, or repackage an MRE type meal to cater to all the athletes out there.
First grade teacher here...Our lunch sizes are the same as high school. HUMMM... You might want to take a peek at the packaging. In Vegas, our food is brought to the elementary schools and is warmed. Ever try to eat a hamburger out of a container with so much condensation on the top of the plastic that your bun in wet? (Not damp and moist, but soggy and wet.) I know why my students are hungry.
Lots of Luck on the new diet–Do gooders do more harm than good at times–
Hey there all you haters! you've got to be joking me...
"fat", "rats", "pigs", "losers"? Who are you to dub them that? Is your brain capacity that small people? You think these students hate Mrs. Obama? NO! They simply made a parody off a hit song in regards to the new lunch program they don't like! And you know what? There are very good reasons for being upset with these lunch program. First of all, there are kids in low-income families all over the U.S. who only get one meal throughout the day and this meal is during school, which has just been minimized. Secondly, This food is NOT healthier! It is just smaller quanity. The food needs to be made healthy and the portions bigger. My last point is that these obese kids all over America are lazy. Looks like these North Dakotans are some hard working calorie burners...way to pave the path ND! To the obese: get off your butts and "play 60" with Michelle Obama!! Im sure these smaller meals will have the obese eating more at home anyway...
Get it Steve!!
Oh and to add to my rant... Most of you haters don't even know the school lunch guidelines! If you think packaged, produced garbage is helping America become healthy think again! Exercise and staying away from junk food is where its at...follow these two steps and kids should be able to eat a well balanced meal that fills them up during school. Heck, I know a lot of students who WANT to gain some weight (be it for sports, to be healthy, or whatever)!! So all you afraid of America's obesity take a bite on that thought. BOOM. Get out and exercise and eat all the MEAT and POTATOES you want MERICA!
The food is healthier. People in America are over weight. That's fine, people have a right to pursue their vice, but tax payers don't have to subsidize their vice. In the future, you might try learning these things called facts. I know, I know, post truth world right? What on earth are facts. Well kids, that's what they use to teach in school, before someone complained "you are starving us of our fantasies" and facts had to be treated equitable to opinions. These kids are not the problem with America. I am happy they want to be active participating citizens. The problems is the 200 million adults arguing over them on the side lines. They are the kids, we are the adults. Remember which one of us creates and enforces the rules.
Pablo; The parents should in charge of their children's diet not Ms Obama. It is her own decision if she cuts off her own family's calories because she & her kids must be thinner than healthy for TV.
Forcing a starvation diet on growing athletes is harmful. The new current guidelines do not supply enough nutrition.
I am 52 years old & I run only moderately. I need to drink a minimum of a quart of WHOLE milk to supply enough potassium & calcium to prevent severe cramps, irregular heartbeats, & bone loss. I also had to increase my protein intake past 12 oz to prevent heart damage from muscle mass loss. Despite these increases I dropped 4 sizes in 3-4 months.
Middle school athletes are not just maintaining their bones & muscles like me, they are actually growing up to 6 inches in height sometimes in a matter of months. To create brand NEW bone & muscle they must have a much higher intake than I currently do. Failure to do so can result in brittle bones & possible organ failure.
Limiting milk to 1 cup & limiting protein to 1 oz for a meal intended to be 1/3 of the calorie intake for a middle school student IS starvation. We will all pay when kids have permanent chronic health problems from Ms Obama's fad diet.
My 16 year old son is a junior in high school. We have battled his entire life to put weight on him. Since the school year started he has lost 5 pounds and now weighs only 110 pounds at 5 ft 7 inches. He brings extra food to school to supplement the school lunch but says the new menu items taste like "warm hippo butt" and aren't appealing at all. I realize there is an obesity problem in this country but there are still more kids without a weight problem than with one. Why put the entire nation of children on a diet to help out the minority? My son's suggestion which will never be enacted is to have 2 lunch options, one traditional and one low fat/low calorie. Of course nobody is going to make the obese kids get in the appropriate line because that would be "mean" and hurt their self esteem.
"There are still more kids without a weight problem than with one." May want to check your facts there.
Maybe you should go to your local mall and take a look around at all the underweight kids.
This is the Presidents kids lunch menu :
Arugula , Fennel & Parmesan Salad
Baked Chicken Patty Sandwich
Roasted Vegetable & Hummus Wraps
Steamed Fresh Broccoli
Baked Idaho Wedges
This is my kid lunch menu:
Hot Breakfast Entrée
When her kid eat what mind does hen she can stick her fingers in the lunch menu
ummm...if I recal those kids were eating a baked chicken patty sandwich
Baked chicken patty? Try a "pink goo based" chicken product, processed, pressed and formed and heated on bun. Ya know like Chicken McNuggets (pink goo that when heated to a certain temp during processing, press and form, takes on color of chicken)....NICE!!!!
thats a dumb point. U can feed ur kids what u want.
Your kids lunch is a breakfast entree- I'm confused is it lunches or breakfast we are talking about.Oh yeah, by the way, what is a breakfast entree?
I work in the school system. Since the changes, kids are now mandated to take vegetables, the food waste is horrible. Few of the kids actually eat what is given to them. It kills me to see how much food is thrown away when there are starving people in our community
A lot of animosity brewing around here. Let me just say this is America. Let the students talk and all you in favor of the suits can beat it. Those fat cats in Washington have had there hands in my pocket for to long and it's about time someone takes a stand. Government plays too big a role in deciding what children can and can't eat. Limiting food when we have the means to provide iseems unethical and i for one am proud to say GOOD FOR THESE GUYS FOR TAKING A STAND!
Limiting food to you seems unethical. Are you kidding me? Are you serious? You sound like one of those foolish parents on Dr. Phil trying to defend giving your 260 pound 10 year old, 3 pizzas, 2 hamburgers, large fries and a milk shake for lunch. But hey it's nobodys business right.
Visit the mid east where I'm from and you'd be happy to get a cookie in your meal. Spoil rich brats!
This is the USA, not a third world garbage heap. We live like civilized people with ambitions other than killing other people are supposed to live here. So get over your BS spoiled brat garbage. This is the FREE WORLD, Like it or LEAVE it.
hmmm, not really demonstrating America at its best! You might consider there's some value in what he has to say rather than laying out insults and disparaging comments.
Based on your comment you might have a difficult time convincing anyone that you belong to a civilized country.
Totally agreed. People/kids need to get over themselves. If you don't like it, then bring your own food! Gimme gimme gimme gimme. Geez, when does it end? Bunch of whining babies.
ahh save it! Just like the music video says..."Mans gotta eat" go troll somewhere else you cretin.
These guys are very fit student athletes. They need calories to perform in their specific sport. I myself am an athlete, and I train vigorously and these lunches just don't get the job done. It's hard to perform when you aren't getting enough calories in a day. Good for these guys for making a video to try to make a change. I bet the haters out there wouldn't eat this food everyday! They would be the ones complaining!
Shout out to ND Jumpstreet
Hey whattheheck99 your a coward and simpleton. You need to get over yourself pal. They want more bang for their buck you jiggaboo. They can "gimmie gimmie gimmie gimmie" all the way home because they are the ones paying for it you critter. It ends when their estomagos are full...babe.
We simply do not want our children's life expectancy to drop down to 140th, like Yemen where people only live to age 63. Malnutrition among our normal weight & underweight children from this forced fad diet would bring us down to the same level of the places in the middle east who are unable feed their own children properly. This is actually a spoiled rich lady forcing her new age nutrition ideas upon schoolchildren, so butt out.
Yeah like by the looks of their trays they are going to be undernourished and suffer from malnutrition.Looks like another radical Republican nut job here.
I am a cheerleader in high school and I absolutely have no problem with what they are serving, but the portion sizes are ridiculous! You have people who are out for sports who burn a TON of calories and their body is never replaced with those calories because they aren't eating enough. This isn't doing much because students just go home and eat lots of junk food anyways!
The country isn't responsible for what the kids eat at home but they are for what they eat at school. See the difference.
These students are guilty of giving.....wait for it....."their own opinion!" (gasp) Completely sad that so many on here are so inept that they can't even figure out how to eat without the governments approval. If you disagree with the government or people who need someone to tell them how to live......they will call high school students names! Let's see...a clever production, that took some time, effort, and thought, to present an arguement vs. calling high school students names. Since the government always knows best, maybe we should consult the all knowing government how to balance a budget, run the postal system, do banking i.e. Sallie Mae/Freddie Mac, and keep Medicare & social security stable, too? Oh wait.........!
I can't believe the comments this thing is getting. Knowing these guys personally, IT IS A SATIRE! They don't walk around everyday complaining about Michelle Obama or anything. Yes, like most students, they complain about the food. They are poking fun at the policies set in place. Relax and enjoy the humorous video.
This one guy on here keeps saying his tax dollars are paying for these school lunches.....may I ask how? My kid buys lunches and it cost me 45.00 every two weeks to pay for school breakfast and lunches.....really your tax dollars are going into this? And she's in Elementary school, I hate to see my bill for High School, I know it's more. Some of you people on here just amaze me with the idiot statements. I agree kids are overweight and they need more excercise....so maybe Obama needs to start bringing PE back to the schools. Maybe we shouldn't have so much homework that the kids can't get out and play in the afternoon. Maybe, they should get their nose out of my business!!!
I couldn't agree with you more. It is true that they have discount or free lunches for students that their parents income shows that they can't afford it but people need to stop complaining about their tax dollars going into everything. If they truely feel that way then they need to do their homework on the system and how it works and find out if their tax dollars are truely going into the system they are complaining about.
I totally agree with you about PE and less homework. I remember when I was in school we still had PE but even in 2007 they were trying to make PE more of a second health class than an actually being PE. Plus the ammount of homework these days even just the amount that it has increased since I graduated in 2007 is crazy. I see kids that end up spending at the least 1 hour if not 2 doing homework every night. It's like by the time they get home and eat dinner and do their homework they have to go to bed. No wonder today's youth are getting to be so over weight all we have them do is sit on their butts all day
his tax dollars DO pay for the kids lunches. in case you forgot schools get most of their money to buy food from the government, which in turn gets that from the taxes for the most part.
you yourself might buy your kids lunches, but our taxpayer money is buying the food to make those lunches
I agree with your point that we should bring back physical education- I'm not against the 3 guys bringing attention to what they see as an issue with school lunches, but instead of everyone reacting so radically perhaps finding a solution to the issue would be a more productive solution. I hope know one thinks that Michelle Obama is trying to hurt anyone.
We are not trying to put down just Michelle personally. We are trying to bring change to the new school lunch regulations. Also, we are not fat. Furthermore, limiting the calorie intake and trying to limit carbs for the school lunch won't stop a obese kid, who loves to eat, from going home and pigging out after school. If anything kids need more exercise and the school lunch is not going to stop obesity.
"Students need more calories" says overweight school principal.
If they want more food they can bring it from home. I'm more concerned about my tax dollars paying to make children fat and then my tax dollars paying for their health problems later in life.
Looks like you are the only one that cares about your tax dollars. The rest of us voted a president that is concerned about fat people and their health. Someone has to look over the overweight if they won't themselves.
Taylor we don't wanna hear parasitic puppet talk, go troll the internet somewhere else.
You will pay much more for the malnutrition health problems created in the normal or underweight children that could have been prevented by giving them a normal diet. Putting over weight children on exercise programs instead would work better.
Republicans condemn first lady, Democrats defend. Just curious what the problem is here?
Lunch program is technically welfare, and students and republicans are upset that they are not getting enough? Weird world we live in.
Wrong, Bill. Most parents pay for the hot lunches. Only the poor folks get the free lunch.
wrong...you have to qualify for free lunch program. This is all meals. And those complaining are those not wanting SO much govt dictatorship.
Yeah I agree with the kids but on the same token, couldnt they just bring their own lunch?
Oh and also, I was told that if these kids bring a sack lunch that they are not allowed to sit at the table with the rest of the students...once again the Obama policy. And you would support this?
That would be segregation. Don't be dumb
It's the truth, in most of the schools around my area if you bring your own lunch you they make you sit in the gym. It's ridiculous
They go to the cafeteria first, they can sit with whomever they want. They often also finish first, not having waited through the lunch line, so in HS they might leave first. Nobody is deliberately separating them, that would be ridiculous (and in no way an "Obama policy").
Yeah that was a dumb respond....The kids should eat what they want to eat as long as they bring it....
Some schools are inspecting the lunch brought from home, discarding it, & after forcing the kid to have the school lunch billing the parents for it. There have already been news reports about this.
As a retired teacher I can explain there is a very practical reason why children who bring packed home lunches sit in a different part of the cafeteria. This is virtually they system set in place all over the world!! It is purely logistical for the servers who supervise . If you have children scattered over a wide area an aweful lot of time is wasted covering the entire surface looking for the hot lunch children. The children who bring home packed lunches don't need much supervision because they already have all they need in their lunch boxes and are self-sufficient. So forget your theories about segregation and the rest it is pure simple time efficent commonsense!!!
First of all, these kids aren't the "rats" in this situation. Michelle Obama has absolutely no right to interfere with school lunches. I graduated from the same small school as these kids and I can tell all of you that by no means are any of them fat; in fact, they are all well built athletes that require a lot of energy and I know that they do eat a very large and healthy breakfast, but that is not going to get anyone through the day. Feeding kids a leaf of lettuce, an apple, and some other packaged God knows what is not going to get them through the rest of the day, especially when they are involved in sports. Feeding kids less isn't going to make America thin again, teaching kids to play less video games and be physically active is. Sure glad I graduated just before this policy came around.
1. School lunches are funded by tax dollars. Therefore, the content of those lunches IS a matter of public policy.
2. Kids are fat and getting fatter.
3. No, you can't JUST have them exercise. Research HAS conclusively shown that both reducing excessive calorie intake AND burning more calories are the necessary components of weight loss and weight maintenance.
4. Despite #3, YES, we need to have kids exercise more anyway.
5. If they don't like the school lunches, they can do what I did all through school... and BRING THEIR OWN LUNCHES.
So you're telling me I have to pay the school lunch bill every month, AND! pay for food separately? As a parent I never had to worry about my kids coming home hungry and now it happens every day. I've spent twice as much money the past few month because My kids come home hungry, and no they aren't obese, they are athletes and one child needs to gain wait for wresting and isn't going to make the team because he isn't making weight.
Teaching kids to play less video games and get more active is the parents job. What gets fed to our kids in public school is the governments job.
It must be a slow news day out west.
HOW DARE THEY CRITICIZE MICHELLE OBAMA THOSE PUTRID LITTLE RATS!!!
What is your name. Obama and the Dems are Frauds and stealing your money. Do you people Not get that??
HEY! they have oppions too! just because they are in highschool dosent mean they dont have oppinions and they have the freedom of speach and I agree with them actualy.
Actually, if they are minors, in school, their freedom of expression isn't absolute. This episode was not curtailed by the authorities in any way, so their First Amendment rights were not restricted. As for agreeing with them...have you even considered they could bring their own high carb foods? How about packing a few high-carb bars, etc, in their backpacks. Nothing in society guarantees their right to have unhealthy foods provided by the school. sheesh
I hope you go to a different school, besides learning to eat properly perhaps you could get some extra help in spelling class.
How dare she force starvation policies on normal & underweight children!
This is why I pack the kids lunch's most days. I am responsible for feeding my kids and knowing that what they are eating is healthy. I am sure most of these complaining kids weren't fed a heakthy breakfast before school. I feed the boys oatmeal, toast, eggs, and/or fruit every weekday, If I don't and they just eat cereal or a waffle or something they come home from school starving. If you are in the path between them and the fridge you are risking your life. This is all nonsense. Parents start caring about your kids and stop expecting the school to take on these type of tasks.
I happen to know these kids and their parents personally. I know that they are fed very well at home, both in the morning for breakfast and after school for dinner. They are excellent students and hard-working athletes. These kids are not in disagreement that school lunches should be healthy. What they are upset about is how little they are getting. When they are used to having bigger portions and suddenly the meal size shrinks in half, it can be very upsetting. I am a teacher at a large ND school, and I see the problem in our school lunch as well. Some days the kids get an ice cream scoop of potatoes and a piece of chicken the size of half a thigh (not even exaggerating). They can get fruits and veggies as well, but those foods don't fill kids up. It's easy to say "bring a lunch" everyday, but how many sandwiches can a kid eat? It's not like they can bring in leftovers and heat them in the microwave. They have a legitimate complaint, and I think they humorously showed this to the public. The kids are great students and great young men, and I applaud the fact that they are trying to stick up for something they believe in.
Why is someone always to blame? Just like these students have to blame Michelle Obama, because they are hungry after they eat lunch? Get real!! Athletes should be eating a large healthy breakfast, good protein loaded meal at noon, and if they need more – bring it with them. My experience was, the kids are too lazy to bother packing their own food to take with them! So go hungry and quit blaming someone else. It is not the school's fault or Mrs. Obama's. It is yours and only yours! Take responsiblity for yourself and instead of writing a song use that energy and pack food!
Highprotein noon meal isnt an option with the food they are given. Also, how are you in a position to decide whether these kids eat breakfast or not. From the looks of it they are all fit and in good shape. Its proven that athletes need more food. Breakfast can only hold over a kid for so long until they get hungry.
You " F " pillows? Ewwww!
If you would've read the video description on YouTube, you would've found out they are NOT blaming her.
First off....these kids have every right to mock the first lady. She needs to get her hands out of something that is supposed to be left up to the parents.
Onto the trhead about the kid being forced to throw away a bag lunch.... The principal would be wearing the scak lunch on his / her head if that ever happens to my kids. This is why home schooling is sounding better and better
I fail to see how what the school puts on its own menu is a parental issue. No one is saying that parents aren't allowed to give their child extra food to bring, you know. No parental rights are being taken away; they have the same rights and options as they always have had. All this policy does is say that the school isn't forced to provide meals that cater to the fattest kids in the school (which means all students get extra food), and instead the school provides meals catered to the healthiest kids in the school (which means that any kid who wants to be unhealthy can do so, on their own dime).
If you want it "left up to parents," then have the parents pack their kids' lunches! Don't rely on the "state" to feed your kids at lunch. Be responsible and send them to school with a better lunch, if you don't like what the school cafeteria is serving!
Larry get a grip on reality- School lunch menus aren't up to the parents if they are being prepared at school. Aside from teaching nutrition seems like a few classes in reasoning skills might be in order.
Here in Holland everybody brings his own lunch.
Well duhhh. you need to brng more food... you're stoned 24-7...Holland=Amsterdam
Have you ever been to Holland? How would you know? There is a lot more to Holland Amsterdam then weed and drugs.
The school lunch program in the US was created to prevent malnutrition for children who lack food at home. This is absolutely a perversion of it's purpose. The new policies are now creating malnutrition in kids who have access at home, so guess what it is doing to the kids most in need.
My second daughter is in public high school right now. She complains about the food they have but more about taste than portion size, and she complained long before the new food guidelines. My answer to her is what I would say to other kids – bring your own lunch. The kids that are in sports & feel they need more – bring your own lunch. And hey, might be a good idea to eat breakfast too, give yourself an extra 10 minutes in the morning and maybe then you will be more alert & less "starving" by lunchtime. Quit whining!
I completely agree with you Sharon. If people are having issues with school lunches, they should be packing their own. Michelle Obama is simply trying to provide schools with more healthier choices, which I do not think is a bad thing at all. When I was in high school the healthiest thing they had was salads.. Childhood obesity definitely won't be helped/stopped if they keep getting fed garbage at schools. When my son's old enough to go to school I will be happy about that. I don't want him eating pizza and french fries every single day.
Poor fatties need their sugar. Quit your whining. Ms Obama is setting you goofballs up to be be able to outlive your fat parents.
Which of those kids was fat? People who are active frequently (like high school athletes) require more than the recommended calorie intake than bored couch potatoes like yourself. If you exercised regularly, then you'd know that you need more food than someone who doesn't. I know men in the military who need 4,000+ calories a day just to stay energetic. That's not what these kids are asking to get- they just want access to some more meat and veggies to keep them fueled for practice.
Those kids are not fat, so that means they are being starved because someone else is fat.
Military service members receive MRE's for an activity level that equals these athletes. Each MRE meal has 3,000 calories in it. That means they consume up to 9,000 calories a day to sustain their high activity level.
These lunches are a maximum of 800 calories for 9-12th grade & only 700 calories for 6-8th grade, plus 650 calories for kindergarten- 5th grade.
That is a bare 250 calorie increase between a 5 year old & an 18 year whose body is at least 3 times larger that is participating in strenuous sports.
This is going to harm these growing children. Why starve the children who have no weight problem & are physically fit? Treat the obese, & put them on exercise programs.
These kids are old enough to look at the school's menu for the week and decide what they want to eat, and, if it's something they don't like, pack a lunch for that day. I know this might be difficult for those receiving free or reduced lunches but they are being offered healthy meals, that's the school's responsibility, eating what's offered is the students'.
The problem is this restriction of calories is not healthy for anyone, except overweight children. The lunch program was created for the students who you acknowledge will have a problem bringing food to school. The lunch program's purpose has been perverted. Kids without food resources at home who got enough to eat at school will now go without the nutrition needed to develop mentally or physically. It will be much too late to correct things after they fail tests because their brain did not develop due to the slow starvation.
Hey guest, quick go grab some more calories- I'm afraid brain damage may be happening.
I remember growing up in Puerto Rico (which is a commonwealth of the U.S.) when lunchroom food was cheap and nutritious. It typically consisted of some stewed legume, rice and sardines, mackerel, chicken or occasionally, pork (all very tasty, I might add). Veggie sides were typically green beans, cut corn, peas or sliced carrots, drinks consisted of nonfat chocolate/plain milk or local fruit juice, dessert was mainly fruit or fruit salad and everything was freshly made. During the '90s, local politicians (who unsurprisingly were later tied to misappropriation schemes and corruption scandals) brought in a menu that basically consisted of all the U.S. junk/fast food staples that have been associated with childhood health problems and obesity in the states. As in the states, children and parents complained over issues like plastic pizza that dripped grease, neon-red hot dogs that tasted like cattle feed with chemicals and higher prices, to no avail. Beware of politicians meddling in the nutritional services of your school districts if the menu is good, do believe that if your school district is serving substandard processed food supplied by an outside vendor already, somebody (or some group) is making like a bandit, it is what it is.
Wow, I wish our schools would wake up and offer a menu like that! You were very lucky.
In Texas they feed kids junk food. In the local high school my children attend, the cafeteria is setup like a commercial food court, catering to the very worst of eating practices. It isn't cheap either. Note, that Texas a big red state for all your political trolls that just want to turn this into anti-Dem article.
Go Back to class kiddo
Sooooo true. Texas has the worst cafeteria food I've ever seen, and I've lived in several states. Our district's child "nutrition" department is headed by a bunch of old, out-of-touch white guys who wouldn't know a healthy meal if one was whacked over their heads. It's sad, really.
it should be that whatever the white house eats, the students get the same thing.
Regardless, you can provide healthier food for the kids, but it has to be eatable. Just because it's good for you doesn't mean it tastes good. If it doesn't taste good the kids won't eat it. I say we go back to actually cooking breakfast and lunch for these kids instead of that prepackaged garbage they serve now.
As a student of nutrition and cuisine, and the father of a student athlete, I am very sympathetic with the message from these students. Our oldest son always ate school lunches. It was his choice. Then he started playing football and basketball, and in doing so he got the message about nutrition and its role in his performance. Since then, he won't have anything to do with the school cafeteria's food. Those school systems that embraced the new federal food guidelines, championed by the First Lady, now have more nutritious food than they had. But for the most part, it's still pretty wretched stuff (I've tried it on numerous occasions when I've joined for lunch on parent lunch days). And the real message from these student athletes is that it's not meeting their nutritional requirements, which is also my experience. The new guidelines were one step in the right direction, but the improvements needed remain greater than those already achieved. With another fours years and her foot in the door, I hope Mrs. Obama finishes the task she started.
Let education continue.
let the new rules rock, we have faith in Michelle Obama.
Speak for yourself. I have no faith in our first lady. Students need to learn to make healthy food choices. How do they learn that by only being offered healthy food?
How many fat kids in U.S.A? Hope to see 2 fats kids sing complaint.
So Brian, you're all for exposing them to make choices that they may later regret in their lives, a precisely the time that they are the least capable of making wise, informed decisions that affect their futures???? You must be one of those fast food/junk food vendors champing at the bit to get into the schools.
"How do they learn that by only being offered healthy food?" Seriously?? What would you suggest should be offered to children?
The study used to try justifying these changes found absolutely no link between school lunches & obesity. However the study said that school lunch could be used as an opportunity to remove calories from children's diets to treat the obese children. Charming. Mrs Obama is willing to starve my underweight child to treat an obese child, who really should be seeing a doctor for treatment anyway.
Mrs Obama should focus on providing better nourishment for her own underweight, unhealthy looking girls. Their arms look too thin on TV, they must be even worse in person. I guess she missed the studies that proved vegans, & vegetarians have the shortest lives. Shorter than the people who were heavy meat eaters. Omnivores with a varied diet actually live the longest.
Most of all; I dislike seeing school children being used in Mrs Obama's untrained social experiment, like test rodents. These kids are not lab animals.
We are too fat. In 10 years we won't even have enough kids to get in the milatary. No problem with some healthy eating, they can eat what they want to when they get home, so how is this hurting kids?
It's hurting some students because they are not being served enough food. Student-athletes require a large number of calories, which turns into energy in the body. If they are not allowed to be served enough food, their body runs on its reserve energy fuel stored in fat and muscles. These athletes are trying to build their muscles, not burn them away. I think the point of the article is not to offer "bad" food for the students, but rather to allow them to choose the amount of calories that they intake.
Most of the people making a big deal on the affect to the military NEVER serve anyway. Less than 1% serve while the other 99% complain. I hope you are not one of them and do not want to imply you are.
You are right though, it is having an affect. I see it every day in the Army. 20+ years, things have changed a lot. After all we are a reflection of the pool we get our recruits from.
However, there are other factors that come into play too. The modern military is a force that has meetings about doing things, and processing the red tape. We are so flooded with policies and paperwork that there is very little time and money to actually do physical things. We spend more time worried about how things look and running through the checklists, that the intent is lost.
The modern Army can send an armed drone piloted by a computer navigator to surgically strike a critical military command position that has been birddogged via satellite today when it would have cost a company-sized unit half of it's men and countless collateral damage casualties to acheive the same mission goal on a good day, when military operations were "physical," as you say. Armies change because they have to, that lesson was learned after Germany's mechanized Blitzkrieg forces left a path of torn, dead, horse-drawn howitzer units belonging to it's opposers behind them during WWII. We are not descendants of the strongest cavemen, but the cavemen with the fastest, sharpest arrows.
The military is important to all of us whether we enlisted or not. I would have if I had not been pregnant at 18, I am sure my husband wouldn't have. I have three sons and you better believe that I will not force them to enlist but will encourage it. I hate to think that when I support the troops, that those same people that I spend time honoring and thanking for their service have the arrogance to say that my thoughts aren't important.
Let's face it – before Michelle Obama took this stand, there was a huge problem with non nutritious school food pandering to students' poor food choices. Of course they're complaining. Keep up the reforms, but listen and respond to legitimate complaints. And parents and teachers try to do what is best for our kids and model better eating too. Much of America's skyrocketing health costs are due to poor adult eating habits!
Thank you for writing this!
Agree George! I had a teacher tell me they use to serve the kids nachos with a side of Doritos...
They still serve that!!!!!
hey geniuses stop eating government food do you really trust the GMO'S your pushing down your thorat why do you think schools are adopting new policies that restrict kids from bringing their own luunch? becuase government now runs education and health care what better way to posion you then from early youth. Is their a histroy class in school anymore or did the liberals get rid of that to. Catch up on history kids for your own sake don't eat what they are feeding you have a national opt out of school lunch day were no student eats school lunch and demands that their individual rights are protected.
You either need to stay in school or go back to school. Your spelling is horrible! Use spell check if you have to.
yeah... and you spelling is about as insane as your thinking.
I don't believe students who bring their own lunch are impacted by this at all. At least they aren't in my school.
Let their parents fix their lunches at home so they can brown bag when they think they need for the day.
I don't know about this school but just a week or so ago there was an article about a student who DID bring their own lunch only to have it thrown away and then given the typical school lunch. The student's parents were sent a bill for the school lunch. Some schools don't allow any food but what they serve now. Sad isn't it.
I agree, it is sad. All they do is throw away a lot of food because it tastes nasty. If my kid doesn't like broccoli, then they don't like broccoli.
@ Steve "I don't know about this school but just a week or so ago there was an article" Lie, fake article you read, you don't even know how to analyze each article you read. I don't believe any article I read......People can write anything for money and attention.
The solution to that is simple...if I send my child to school with a nutritious lunch that I prepared and any school official throws it away, forces my child to eat school food and sends me a bill, two things happen: 1) lawsuit/legal action; and 2) my child would no longer be going to that school. END OF DISCUSSION.
I honestly think that this is the best thing for the crisis right now. There are hungry students who don't like the food, so they wont eat it, or there are other kids who eat the entire meal and are STILL hungry! At my school we are experiencing the same problems and are thinking of doing a video as well.
Sorry, but if they don't like the food that's provided they need to bring a lunch from home. School lunch has ALWAYS tasted bad, but if you wanted to eat, you ate it. The athletes in this video should also be bringing snacks or something since they shouldn't be eating all their calories in the traditional 3 meal system if they want to develop in the optimum way.
Completely agree with Josh. This whole story is ridiculous. If you need a ton of food, put an energy bar in your pocket or something. Sheesh, with all the obese children in this country, this article would have us believe we should put soda and fries back on the menu... ridiculous.
